If moral hedonism is true, then we would have an obligation to plug in. However, I believe experiencing the true feeling of fulfillment from our successes is incredibly valuable, and it cannot be simulated. Pride is a powerful force in human existence, and a healthy amount of pride motivates us to strive for success; this motivation heavily contributes to collective societal progression. As humans, don’t we an obligation to contribute to our world’s steady progression? I believe hedonists would have to agree, as progress produces a great amount of pleasure. Thus, moral hedonism must be false, as plugging in would prevent us from feeling truly fulfilled; this prevention would ultimately undermine our motivations, which would subsequently reduce societal progression and overall happiness.
