Psychological hedonism claims that human actions are completely driven by pleasure and avoidance of pain. If this is true, the answer to Nozick’s experiment will be plugging into the machine to search for the highest pleasure. Suppose that the best choice is to plug in the machine, there are several consequences one could suffer from and diminish the pleasure. First, the value of interpersonal relationships will be banished by the choice. Secondly, besides pleasure, the desire and pursuit of truth is another motivation that drives human behavior and sometimes this desire overwhelms the pursuit of pleasure.
