The view of metaphysical holism can correlate to a view that maybe deforestation isn’t bad if it is to accommodate expanding populations. This is because according to this theory, we are part of the ecosystem just like everything else. If we are practicing deforestation to protect our vital needs then it is just a matter of speciation at that point. We are equal to every other living thing so by deforestation we are sacrificing other species’ well being for our own vital needs, which isn’t morally wrong by metaphysical holism. The deep ecologist might respond by saying that we are harming more than one species by deforestation. Because all species are considered equal then if we are saving one species by harming lots of others, then it is doing more wrong than good. By this stance, deforestation could seem wrong.
