Since I as a human am part of my complex city, then supporting deforestation of Amazon for the sake of keeping the vitality and supporting the expansion of my city is permissible. After all, my natural interests are aligned with the whole city that makes up my environment.
This argument is by itself weak because it is discordant with tenets 3 and 7 of deep ecology. Metaphysical holism is not by itself the center of the deep ecology system. I can only reduce the richness of other life to meet vital needs. However, deforestation is primarily done for the sake of meeting not vital but unnecessary needs that is stimulated by desires and consumerism. In addition, I should be asking myself whether this is doing anything to improve my life quality or whether it is merely enabling a higher standard of living. Ultimately, it is only done to raise the standard of living and make profits for companies who exploit unnecessary desires of humans.
