My analogy for lesser evil voting is about the case which a cigarette addict tries to quit smoking. Imagine you smoke one pack of cigarette containing the most tar and nicotine a day. It will be the best if you can stop smoking right away as you decide, but it's hard for most smokers. There are two possible options that you can choose. The one is to reduce the number of cigarette gradually, but still smoke the high-nicotine and high-tar cigarettes. It does not change your satisfaction while smoking. This is like voting for the greater evil candidates. The other option is to smoke the low-nicotine and low-tar cigarettes. The taste and impact of these is comparably weak, and so you might not satisfy. However, even if you do not reduce the number of the time you smoke, this is much better for your health in comparison to the first option. This is like voting for lesser evil candidates. Lastly, an additional option is to use to use e-cigarette. Maybe, this method can help quit smoking if it works as a substitute, but e-cig also contains nicotine, which means you can be addicted to e-cig either in the worst case. Using e-cig has positive impact on some people, but mostly, the consequence is worse than before. This is like protest vote. I think the best way choosing the lesser evil.
