Jeff Bezos launched the Day One fund to help the poor. Ironically, Amazon has been criticized for poor worker treatment. The day one fund was launched to provide healthcare for homeless and low-income communities. Although Amazon and Jeff Bezos wants to do philanthropy and give back to the society, their purpose and vision are contradicted to their action and how they treated their customers, which makes the public doubt their movement on helping the poor. It is ironic that Jeff Bezos receive credits from setting up the fund, but not directly helping his workers, but the media and newspaper praises Bezos from doing this. At the same time, Bezos didn’t fulfill the obligations to pay taxes when other common workers’ pay the proper tax back to the societies. Some celebrities are the people who break everything but also tells you how to fix it by putting on philanthropically mask. Celebrities tend to shape a positive and caring image to the public to gain good reputation for their companies, but the truth is that it’s all ‘fauxlanthropy’. After reading this article, I also want to argue that no matter how Amazon treated employees, it is not all Bezos’s fault behind all the problems. What’s more, no matter what the cause is, the fact is Bezos did create a fund which can help people in need and provide them with healthcare. The motivation doesn’t matter if it helped people at last.
