Final Paper Topic
For my final paper topic, I am still in between the brilliant philosophers that I am privileged to choose from but I think I am leaning most towards Schopenhauer. He immediately caught my attention as his perspective is unlike any I have ever read before, and I would like to analyze his approach to suffering more. His claims may not catch the eye of the majority of people as some may consider them too pessimistic or extreme, however, his points hold a particular truth to be recognized- a truth a lot of people not want to fully realize.
My paper will explore if suffering is as necessary to life as Schopenhauer claims it to be. I can offer two accounts from my personal life that I believe can greatly contribute to his claims, in alignment or opposition. For example, I had a friend who was gifted with many fortunes and privileges in life and did not suffer to the degree that Schopenhauer may allude to in his writing. On the contrary, I have another friend who is the complete opposite where "they have yet to catch a break in life." I would like to apply these two to Schopenhauer's theory on suffering and if it is truly necessary.
While my topic is still developing and have obvious hestitations to it, I am excited to delve deeper into Schopenhauer's approach to suffering.
