For my final paper, I want to talk about Nietzsche and his views on morality. I think that Nietzsche's account into the origins of morality are particularly interesting, embracing perspectivism and rejecting the Kantian notion that morality is rationally determined. Kantian ethics are too austere in their approach, and, like Murdoch says, leave little room for the passions and emotions. However, passions and emotions affect so much of our lives, and to act without taking them into consideration is foolish. I would like to explore Nietzsche's idea of the will to power in response to Kantian ethics. Nietzsche believed that a strict societal moral code can lead to repression and resentment. Here, Kant and Nietzsche would disagree on the nature of this moral code or categorical imperative, with Kant describing it as universalizable truth and Nietzsche viewing it as a subjective worldveiw.
